During daily interactions with drillers from around the world, our engineers and sales team are attentive to the features or performance characteristics drillers desire in their next Geoprobe® rig. Some work in difficult subsurface formations, requiring more rotational speed and rotary power while maintaining a compact carrier.
The 3135GT, originally known as the C24 concept rig, debuted during Open House April 25. Engineered with geotechnical drilling in mind, drillers find its compact size, features, and power also suited to environmental, exploration, and construction projects. Think of it as all you've come to appreciate in a Geoprobe® 31 series geotechnical drill rig — like centerline head side shift — but more.
Rob Scharringhausen, partner at Bulldog Drilling in Illinois, stepped up to the rig controls after Open House.
“It has the right amount of torque to turn augers at a decent speed for production drilling,” he said. “With slide head, everything after drilling augers should be quicker, and from what I’ve seen, augering will be as fast as a conventional rig.”
Additionally, like all our geotechnical drill rigs, the 3135GT is built with MWD capabilities. MWD takes advantage of data already available from the rig and makes it useable in other software or logging hardware for operators looking to utilize that data. MWD isn’t limited by hard formations which prohibit pushing CPT, and helps provide a clearer picture than what can be achieved with traditional SPT sampling.
“It takes advantage of existing sensors on Geoprobe® machines in a cost-effective, simple plug-and-play system to collect data already being output from the machine,” Alex Silvey, Nebraska Department of Roads, said. “Geoprobe® MWD removes obstacles of investing and coming up-to-speed with MWD, ensuring it’s all working. If problems do come up, having Geoprobe® engineers and service technicians who know the machines is a valuable support.”
