Geoprobe Systems^® offers direct push machines in several sizes and configurations to suit a wide variety of site conditions. Sometimes, however, a project is just too small or the location too remote to warrant the use of a machine. Manual sampling tools - sometimes referred to as hand auger soil sampling - provide an economical means of collecting subsurface information from shallow depths without the use of a direct push machine.

Manual sampling or hand auger soil sampling simply involves advancing tools into the subsurface without the aid of a hydraulically-powered machine. Tools for advancement of the rod string include manual slide hammers and gas, pneumatic, or electric hand-held hammers. After collection of the sample or completion of the log, the tool string is retrieved using a probe rod jack.

Manual Slide Hammers
Geoprobe^® Manual Sampling tools provide an economical means of collecting subsurface information from shallow depths without the use of a direct push machine. In addition to the manual slide hammer, this system uses a loop pull cap, guide rod, and slide hammer anvil.

Probe Rod Jack
Tools manually driven into the subsurface are retrieved with a Geoprobe^® Probe Rod Jack. With all driving accessories (loop pull cap, slide hammer, guide rod, and slide hammer anvil) removed from the tool string, place the jack over the top probe rod and slide it down to the ground surface. Insert the jack handle into the rectangular housing on the jack. Actuate the handle up-and-down to pull the rods out of the ground. Probe rod jacks are assembled for use with 1.25 inch probe rods.

Electric & Pneumatic Hammer Accessories
Geoprobe Systems^® manufactures anvil adapters for many hand-held electric, pneumatic, and gasoline-powered hammers and drills. Adapters for several popular models of Wacker^®, Bosch^®, ESD^®, Makita^®, and Kango^® brand percussion equipment are stocked for use with 1.25 inch probe rods. Geoprobe Systems^® can also custom-build an anvil adapter to fit your particular hammer or drill.
