Environmental Drill Rigs
Machines and tooling for environmental drilling and sub-surface sampling.
The Geoprobe® 3230DT Combo Rig is a one-stop shop of a machine. Percussion, mud rotary, augering, SPT, and rock coring features allow you to complete both geotechnical and environmental field work without switching machines.
Geoprobe Systems® has been a leader and innovator in the environmental drilling, sub-surface sampling industry for more than 20 years. We were the originators of direct push technology and we are continually driven to develop and improve our environmental drilling machines, tools, and methods.
Machines and Tooling for Success
Geoprobe® engineers and builds several drilling rigs for environmental drilling and sampling. The 3230DT and 7822DT combination rigs can be used to seamlessly transition from direct push to rotary work, allowing for multiple applications. Our limited access machines can be used in extremely tight and remote sampling locations. Our large platform / big performance rotary sonic drilling rigs can also be used for environmental drilling.
A great drilling machine isn’t much without a proper tooling system. Conversely, a great tool system doesn’t collect high-quality information for which it was designed without a machine to advance it to depth and retrieve it safely, efficiently, and economically. Geoprobe® machine and tooling engineers work at arm’s length to develop complete systems to make you successful. Our innovative environmental drilling product line is robust and built for any type of formation.

3230DT Combo Rig Features
Patented CB Combo Head

The patented CB Combo Head is the heart of the 3230DT and perfect for augering and high-speed rotary work. 2-speed, 4-speed, and 6-speed rotary drives are available. For projects that require direct push sampling or driving large casing, the integrated GH70 Hammer has become standard.
80K Pullback / 50K Downforce

The 3230DT drill mast may be one of the more unique aspects of this new offering. With a retraction force of 80,000 lb. at the cylinder and 84 in. of travel, the 3230DT has the pullback needed for direct push work.
Movable, Adjustable Control Panel

The adjustable swing-arm 3230DT control panel has an intuitive layout that allows the operator to perform multiple tasks effortlessly. Speeds, feeds, and pumps can be precisely dialed in with the electronic controls.
Triple Winches

The variable height telescoping winch mast allows your field team to trip 20 ft. sections of tooling. The triple winches have 8,500 lbf, 5,000 lbf, and 1,100 lbf options available.
Automatic Drop Hammer

The DH105 Automatic Drop Hammer is equipped for Standard Penetration Testing (SPT) work. The easy-to-use drop hammer hydraulically swings out over the borehole after the combo head is sideshifted away from the tool string.
Head Centerline Side-Shift
All of the machine’s functions are at your fingertips on the control panel including the hydraulic controls for positioning the side-shift function of the CB Combo Head. The combo head travels up to 24 in. to the left and 2 in. to the right from center.
Tooling
Dual tube soil sampling uses two separate rod systems to perform soil sampling: there is an outer drive casing which is advanced incrementally into the soil, and an inner rod string which is cycled in and out of the casing to retrieve soil cores. Sampling in this manner means that the probe hole remains cased during the sampling operations, precluding cross contamination. Dual tube systems offer improved sampling speed and flexability with the ability to perform multi-sampling tasks in a single borehole. These can include groundwater sampling, soil vapor sampling or implants, setting sparge points, and setting monitoring wells in the same operation.
Geoprobe Systems® manufactures many sizes of sonic coring bits, casing bits, dual tube bits (exclusive to Geoprobe Systems®), and special purpose bits. Bit life, sample recovery rates, and increased penetration rates are all key factors when determining the reliability of sonic tooling. Our coring bits, most commonly used in ‘core and case’ applications, feature different carbide button configurations, water channels for flushing cuttings, and provisions for the use of core catchers to help retain sampled material in the sampler.
As with our machines, Geoprobe® tooling is designed and manufactured in-house. It’s the only way we can assure the delivery of high-quality products with the consistency of performance our customers expect from our brand.
