Soil Sampling Overview

Soil Sampling has long been the mainstay of direct push work. Geoprobe® soil probing methods continue to replace other drilling methods for environmental, geotechnical, and mining & exploration purposes largely due to their ability to quickly and efficiently recover soil samples.

Added benefits of direct push type soil sampling include the ability to recover continuous soil cores through holes barely larger than the core itself, the absence of cuttings, and the ability to recover cores using relatively small and highly mobile machinery. With the benefits like these, it's no wonder that direct push soil sampling continues to grow.

Soil Samples

Single Rod Systems

Geoprobe® tools for soil sampling can be divided into two neat categories: single rod and dual tube systems. Single rod systems include the industry standard MC5 as well as MC7 and the LB. Our "tried and true" single rod soil sampling systems offer simplicity both in their tooling and operations. These systems are very fast and efficient in soil recovery.

Dual Tube Systems

The Geoprobe Systems® dual tube family of soil samplers is growing in popularity every day. They offer many multi-use options. In a sense, our dual tube systems pick up where our single rod soil samplers leave off. As the name implies, dual tube soil sampling uses two separate rod systems to perform soil sampling: there is an outer drive casing which is advanced incrementally into the soil, and an inner rod string which is cycled in and out of the casing to retrieve soil cores. Sampling in this manner means that the probe hole remains cased during the sampling operations, precluding cross contamination. Dual tube systems offer improved sampling speed and flexability with the ability to perform multi-sampling tasks in a single borehole. These can include groundwater sampling, soil vapor sampling or implants, setting sparge points, and setting monitoring wells in the same operation.

Innovation

Geoprobe Systems® has offered soil sampling tools for direct push applications for well over two decades now. However our development in this category is far from static. Our staff is constantly working to innovate improvements in soil sampling systems. We have never stopped designing, redesigning, prototyping, testing, and proving new and improved soil sampling systems.
