The
DT22 system uses Geoprobe® 2.25 in. (57 mm) OD probe rods as an outer
casing and Geoprobe® Light-Weight Center Rods for the inner rod string.
A DT22 cutting shoe is threaded into the leading end of the rod string.
When driven into the subsurface, the cutting shoe shears a 1.125 in. (29
mm) OD soil core which is collected inside the casing in a clear PVC
liner.
The Light-Weight Center Rods hold the liner in place while collecting the soil core, and also provide a means of retrieving the liner once the sample is collected. The 2.25 in. probe rods provided a cased hole through which to sample.
The main advantage of sampling through a cased hole is that there is no side slough to contend with. In addition, the outer casing effectively seals the probe hole when sampling through perched water tables. These factors mean that sample cross contamination is eliminated.
DT22 Sampler Benefits:

DT22 Liners are available with an integrated core catcher, fused directly to the liner. No more empty liners ... No more nasty surprises. Our DT22 liners have a core catcher permanently fused to each liner. The integrated core catcher prevents soil cores from falling out of the DT22 liner during sample retrieval. It's great for sampling in areas of loose soils, especially saturated sands. The liners, made of PVC, attach directly to a DT22 Drive Head. Don't worry ... no additional tooling or adapters are needed to use these liners with the GeoprobeŽ standard DT22 Soil Sampling System. The liners have a 1.375 in. OD, are 48 in. long, and come 50 to a box.
The Drive Cushion (Geoprobe® Part#42236) stands up to those tough field conditions. The DT22 Drive Cushion will minimize the use of rubber bumpers and provides a cost effective alternative. The steel and composite construction design provides lasting field durability.
An optional Retrieval Tool is also available (Geoprobe® Part #45425).
